Ingredients

6 cups sliced apples

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup cornstarch

1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups water

Instructions

1. Peel, core, and slice apples evenly. Toss with lemon juice to prevent browning.

2. In a saucepan over medium heat, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), salt, and water. Stir until thickened and bubbling.

3. Add apples to the sauce and stir to coat. Simmer for 8–10 minutes, until apples are tender but not mushy.

4. Remove from heat and let cool completely before storing or using in your recipes.

Notes

Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best depth of flavor.

Let the filling cool fully before storing for best consistency.
