Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese

1 small onion finely chopped

2 cloves garlic minced

2 sheets puff pastry thawed

1 egg

1 tablespoon water

1 teaspoon salt

1⁄2 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon chopped parsley optional


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft.

3. Stir in garlic, salt, and pepper. Cook 1 minute more, then remove from heat and cool slightly.

4. Mix shredded cheese into the cooled beef mixture.

5. On a floured surface, cut each pastry sheet into 3 equal rectangles.

6. Spoon beef mixture down the center of each rectangle. Fold over and seal edges.

7. Place rolls seam-side down on the baking sheet.

8. Beat egg with water and brush over the tops of each roll.

9. Bake for 18–22 minutes until puffed and golden brown.

10. Let rest 5 minutes. Slice, garnish with parsley, and serve warm.

Notes

Let the filling cool before assembling to avoid soggy pastry.

You can freeze unbaked rolls and bake from frozen—just add 5 minutes to the bake time.
