Ingredients
4.5 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1.5 teaspoons almond extract
20 maraschino cherries, halved
0.5 cup sliced almonds
2 tablespoons powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, beat together butter, granulated sugar, powdered sugar, and vegetable oil until creamy.
3. Add eggs and almond extract; beat until fluffy.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Gradually add to wet mixture and mix to form soft dough.
5. Roll dough into 1.5-inch balls and place on baking sheet 2 inches apart.
6. Press 1-2 cherry halves into each cookie and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
7. Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
8. Cool for 5 minutes on the pan, then transfer to a rack.
9. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
