Ingredients
4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
2 cups heavy cream
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon dried thyme or fresh thyme leaves for garnish
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional for extra cheesiness)
Instructions
- Prepare the Potatoes – Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Wash, peel, and thinly slice potatoes into ⅛-inch rounds.
- Make the Cheese Sauce – In a saucepan, melt butter and sauté garlic until fragrant. Stir in heavy cream, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Slowly add 1 ½ cups cheddar and mozzarella, stirring until smooth.
- Assemble the Dish – Layer half of the potatoes in the baking dish, pour half of the cheese sauce over them, and repeat. Sprinkle remaining cheddar and optional Parmesan on top.
- Bake – Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 20–25 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
- Garnish & Serve – Let the dish rest for 10 minutes, then sprinkle with thyme before serving warm.
