Ingredients
240 ml warm water
1 tablespoon sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
390 grams all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
60 grams plain yogurt
2 tablespoons oil or melted butter
optional garlic or chopped herbs for garnish
Instructions
1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until frothy.
2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add in the yeast mixture, yogurt, and oil or butter.
3. Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled.
5. Divide dough into 6–8 balls. Roll each into oval or tear-drop shapes.
6. Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat.
7. Cook each naan for 1–2 minutes per side until bubbles and charred spots appear.
8. Brush with melted butter or garlic butter while hot. Serve immediately.
Notes
Letting the dough rise fully is key to getting soft, fluffy naan.
Use a cast iron skillet for best results with signature char marks.
