3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Green gel food coloring (about 2 drops)
Assorted holiday sprinkles
12 edible gold star sprinkles
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 200°F (93°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
2. In a clean mixing bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
3. Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating on high until stiff, glossy peaks form.
4. Add vanilla extract and green food coloring. Beat gently to combine.
5. Transfer meringue to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
6. Pipe tree shapes by layering small swirls on top of each other in decreasing sizes.
7. Decorate with sprinkles and place a gold star on each tree.
8. Bake for 1 hour 30 minutes. Turn off the oven and let cool inside for 1 hour.
9. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
Notes
Make sure your mixing bowl is completely grease-free to get perfect stiff peaks.
Let the meringues cool in the oven to avoid cracks caused by sudden temperature changes.
