Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped almonds or pecans
Instructions
1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add sugar and salt. Stir constantly.
3. Continue stirring until mixture reaches 300°F and turns golden brown (hard crack stage).
4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract quickly.
5. Pour the hot toffee onto the prepared sheet and spread evenly.
6. Sprinkle chocolate chips over hot toffee and let sit 2 minutes to melt. Spread into a smooth layer.
7. Sprinkle chopped nuts over the chocolate and gently press them in.
8. Let cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate.
9. Once set, break into pieces and enjoy or store!
Notes
Make sure to stir constantly to prevent burning during the sugar cooking stage.
Use a candy thermometer for accuracy—300°F is key for that perfect toffee crunch.
