Ingredients
2 cups warm water (around 110°F)
2/3 cup nonfat dry milk
2 tbsp dry yeast
1/4 cup sugar
2 tsp salt
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 egg
5 to 5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Additional melted butter (for brushing after baking)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, mix warm water and dry milk until dissolved. Add yeast and let sit 5 minutes until bubbly.
- Stir in sugar, salt, softened butter, and egg. Mix thoroughly.
- Add 2 cups of flour and mix until smooth. Gradually add more flour until dough pulls from sides of bowl.
- Knead for 5–7 minutes until dough is soft and elastic.
- Place dough in greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
- Roll out dough into 1/4-inch thick rectangle. Cut into 2×4 inch strips. Roll each strip and place seam side down in a greased baking pan.
- Cover and let rise again until puffy (about 30–45 minutes).
- Bake at 375°F for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown.
- Brush warm rolls with melted butter and serve.
