Ingredients

2 pounds ground beef

1 can (29 oz) tomato sauce

1 can (29 oz) kidney beans (with liquid)

1 can (29 oz) pinto beans (with liquid)

1 cup diced onion

1/2 cup diced green bell pepper

1/2 cup diced celery

3 medium tomatoes, chopped

1 packet chili seasoning mix (or homemade mix)

1 tsp sugar

1 tsp white vinegar

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

1 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain the excess fat.
  2. Add diced onion, bell pepper, and celery. Cook for about 5 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in chopped tomatoes, kidney beans, and pinto beans with their liquid.
  4. Add tomato sauce and water. Mix in chili seasoning, sugar, vinegar, and cayenne pepper.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 1 to 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot with your favorite toppings.
